Legendary Reggae singer Ras Kinomo died few days before he was to travel to United states.

Ras Kimono became famous after he released Rumba Stylee song in the 80s. The song was a hit and he was able to tour the world performing at various countries. He was so big; everyone wanted to buy his album. He was born in Edo State, Nigeria, Ekeleke Elumelu was the name his parents gave him, but he goes by his stage name Ras Kimono.


According to report, Ras Kimono has been sick for a while, recently he felt gravely ill again and he was rushed to the hospital in Lagos, where he passed away.   In his prime, Ras Kimono won various awards in Nigeria and internationally, he was well respected for his talent, he’s known for voicing his opinions with his music, he loves enlighten the public on political and social issues.


Ras Kimono was born on the 9th of May 1958, he died on June 10th 2018, and he was 60 years old at the time of his death.  Although, he lived a Rastafarian life, Ras said he stopped smoking and drinking when he was 23 years old (Ras Kimono “I stopped 37 years ago “, he was almost 60 years old at the time of the interview).

“I have never smoked and I don’t drink alcohol. I tell people I have been a vegetarian for 37 years. Even when my friends were having sex with two girls at the same time in those days, I didn’t join them. I have never done what these girls and boys call threesome despite being famous and I am sure there are other people who have never done that too.

“When people attribute recklessness to youthful exuberance, I get worried because I once passed through that stage too. I believe it is all about your upbringing. The fact that you are young doesn’t mean you should be wayward.” – he said in his recent interview with Punch Newspaper.
