A report from English tabloid The Sun has indicated that the DNA of Portuguese star, Cristiano Ronaldo matched with the evidence collected in the rape case against him in America.
Ronaldo who plies his trade with Serie A champion, Juventus had been accused of rape by an American, Kathryn Mayorga last year. Kathryn had claimed that she was raped by the five-time Ballon d’Or winner in a hotel room in Las Vegas in 2009.
The criminal case had earlier been dropped after the lady was reportedly paid off. The case was however widely publicised later forcing the Portuguese to protest his innocence on social media following the accusation.
Jeffrey Guyer, Las Vegas detective who confirmed the incident said that “DNA is back and is a match”. This is among the 100 emails sent between police and criminal prosecutors in the US.
It could be recalled that Juventus had vowed last year to support the Portuguese skipper and discredited the claims, backing him up that he is a professional.
Ronaldo had last month again told British media personality, Piers Morgan, that he felt embarrassed about the allegations and protested his innocence once again.
Mayorga ready for a civil case
With the evidenced said to have a matched Ronaldo’s DNA, he could be jailed for the offense if proven guilty.
34-year-old Mayorga is pursuing a civil case against the football star. She is seeking damages of £165,000. Ronaldo met her in June 2009 at Palms Casino Resort where she worked as a bar hostess. He was on holiday with his brother-in-law and cousin. She was reportedly invited by Ronaldo’s cousin and her friends to his penthouse for a party.
Kathryn revealed her identity last year after claiming anonymity since the incident happened. In an interview with German newspaper Der Spiegel, she said it happened in the bathroom. According to her, she was changing to go into the Jacuzzi when Ronaldo walked in exposing his manhood.
“He starts to do stuff and touch and grab me. I pushed him away and kept saying ‘No’.
“I turned away from him and curled up into a ball. That’s when he jumped on me. I said, ‘No, no, no, no,” she said.
