Bundesliga champion, Bayern Munich have suffered a 2-1 home loss to Hoffenheim after having a massive week in the Champions League during midweek.
The defeat is Bayern’s defeat of the season. This is coming just four days after their 7-2 Champions League win at Tottenham. This is Hoffenheim’s first-ever league win at Allianz Arena.
Sargis Adamyan’s brace in between Robert Lewandowski’s strike the second half was enough to secure maximum points for the visitors.
Bayern is levelled on point on top of the log with Freiburg, RB Leipzig and Bayer Leverkusen. Only goals differences are separating the sides.
Second-placed Freiburg secured a 2-2 draw at home against Borussia Dortmund, while Leipzig and Leverkusen played out a 1-1 draw.
Bayern Caught napping
Bayern was caught napping by a Hoffenheim side that had taken five points from available 18 in their opening six games.
There had been warning signs in Bayern’s line with Thiago Alcantara being the only change from midweek. Armenian forward who would later win the game for his team had earlier failed to capitalise when through on goal in the opening minutes.
Serge Gnabry, who found the back of the net on four occasions in England scored but his goal was ruled out for offside.
Adamyan opened the goals account after making up for his earlier miss slotting into the bottom corner after 54 minutes.
Lewandowski restored parity with a header from Thomas Muller’s cross 17 minutes from time.
Bayern was searching for a winner before being caught in possession. In a quick pace, Hoffenheim break saw Adamyan squeeze the ball into the bottom right corner of Manuel Neuer’s goal from the edge of the area.
Meanwhile, Shalke 04 returned to the top four after recording a 1-1 draw against Cologne.
David Wagner’s men would have topped the table going into the premier league if they had gotten maximum points.
