A gas explosion rocked Lagos State today at Four-point, Sheraton Hotel, Oniru, Victoria Island.
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) confirmed the incident. It occurred at about 12:35pm, on Wednesday, December 4, 2019.
As at the time of publishing this report, efforts were still ongoing to put out the fire; at least three people have sustained different degrees of injuries.
The explosion has also shattered several rooms, vehicles, windows and other items around the scene of the incident.
A welding activity in the premises of Sheraton Hotel and leakage from one of the cylinder hoses at the vicinity reportedly caused the explosion.
Meanwhile, the Director-General of LASEMA Dr Femi Oke-Osayintolu said the situation was under control.
According to him, a combined effort of the LASEMA Response Unit; the Police and staff of the hotel were on ground to ensure a swift recovery.
He said, “A total of three people sustained severe injuries as a result of the blast and two have been rushed to Lagos Island General hospital for intensive care by LASEMA Ambulance Unit while one was rushed to a nearby private hospital.
“Several cars and hotel room windows were shattered as a result of flying objects due to the blast. Recovery operation ongoing.”
