Davido is on top the world right now as his three months old album “A Good Time” was certified Platinum by the Recording Industry of South Africa. The musician took to Instagram to share a video where he was receiving the plague at Sony Music Entertainment headquarters in South Africa.
Besides his album hitting the platinum mark, two of his other singles were also certified platinum. ‘Blow My Mind’ featuring Chris Brown was certified platinum while ‘Risky’ featuring Popcaan was certified double platinum.
Davido dropped the ”A Good Time” album on November 22nd, 2019, under his imprint Davido Music Worldwide (DMW) and Sony Music Entertainment. The album featured seventeen tracks, with ten of the songs being solo works of Davido, while the other seven were collaborative efforts comprises of local and international talents.
It is worthy of note that the exact number of album sales required to go platinum varies from country to country, depending on population.
For instance, in the United States, platinum certification means that an album has sold 1 million copies or that a single has sold 2 million copies. On the other hand, Diamond means a U.S. sale of more than 10 million units for a single title.
This is not the first time Davido has enjoyed such a rare feat in the music industry. In 2018, he announced that his hit singles “If” and “Fall” have gone diamond and platinum in sales respectively. The 27-year-old singer shared a photo of himself at the Columbia Records office with his plaques.
It is also worthy of note that Faze, a member of the defunct music group Platainshun Boiz, is regarded as the first musician in Nigeria to ever have all his three albums certified platinum.
Other musicians in Nigeria who can boast of having platinum-selling albums or singles are 2face Ididia (2baba), D’banj, Wande Coal, Burna Boy, Wizkid, Psquare, 9ice and a couple of others.
