Nigerian musician David Adeleke, Davido was blown away when he decided to get into the Capital One Arena on Saturday, February 22, 2020, to watch the Washington Wizards’ NBA game and got special recognition for doing so by the club’s game announcer.
Before the game between Washington Wizards and Cleveland Cavaliers began, the camera beamed on Davido and he was shown on the big screen in the arena. The announcer then went, “please join us as we welcome singer, songwriter, record producer Davido”, while his hit song “Fall” was playing in the background.
The Washington Wizards are an American professional basketball team based in Washington, D.C. The Wizards compete in the National Basketball Association (NBA) as a member of the league’s Eastern Conference Southeast Division.
The visit of Davido and the special recognition could not save the team on Saturday as it was defeated by the visiting team Cleveland Cavaliers 108 to 113 points to earn the 9th position on the Eastern Conference table.
However, the defeat didn’t get to Davido who took to his Instagram account to celebrate the special recognition the club bestowed on him. He shared the video showing when the announcer announced to the spectators that they have a special guest in the arena.
“I been Dey form … but make I no lie e sweet me 😂😂 Big up @washwizards”, he captioned the video which has attracted 780,832 views and almost 5 thousand comments within 12 hours of posting it.
Indeed, this is another bragging right for Davido’s teeming fans and a testament to the fact that the Atlanta-born Nigeria based musician has gone global beyond the imagination of his critics in Nigeria.
Even though some claimed it was a paid announcement, it is a feat the musician and his fans will cherish for a while.
