The Department of States Services
has finally freed pro-democracy activist, Omoyele Sowore today, December 5, 2019, after over three months in the custody of the service.
The DSS arrested him on August 3, 2019, for calling for a protest tagged #RevolutionNow and the service charged him to court for Treasonable Felony.
The Federal High Court in Abuja had since granted Sowore and his co-defendant, Olawale Bakare bail. However, they remained in the custody of the DSS despite meeting the bail conditions.
This annoyed the court when it sat today and fined the DSS 100 thousand Naira for delaying the court procedures. It also ordered the service to release Sowore within 24 hours.
The service obeyed the court order this evening for the first time since it arrested the journalist cum politician in August.
His Publishing outfit, Sahara Reporters confirmed that the activist regained his Freedom on Thursday evening, December 5, 2019.
