Former Hollywood Movie producer who was recently convicted of sexual assault, Harvey Weinstein has tested positive for the dreaded coronavirus in Wende Correctional Facility, New York, United States of America.
The 68-year-old former Hollywood movie producer spent less than three weeks in the correctional facility before he was diagnosed with the virus which has infected close to 300, 000 people worldwide.
Michael Powers, president of the New York State Correctional Officers and Police Benevolent Association told newsmen that Weinstein has been placed in isolation at Wende Correctional Facility where he has been serving a prison sentence for sexual assault and rape.
According to powers, the test conducted on Weinstein came back positive on Sunday, March 22, 2020, a result which has caused a lot of panic amidst the staff of the correctional facility.
Recall that Weinstein was sentenced to 23 years in prison on March 11, 2020, for sexually assaulting former production assistant Mimi Haleyi and raping Jessica Mann, a onetime aspiring actress.
He arrived at Wende Correctional Facility, a maximum-security prison east of Buffalo, New York, on Wednesday, March 18, 2020, after being housed at New York City’s Rikers Island jail.
Before he was taken to the Island Jail, he spent time at Bellevue Hospital in Manhattan for heart problems. Weinstein also has other medical issues, including diabetes and high blood pressure.
Officials familiar with his situation said it is believed Weinstein was positive for the virus when he entered the state prison system on Wednesday from Rikers Island, a New York City jail.
During his trial at a Manhattan courtroom, he had been alternating his time between Rikers Island and a New York City hospital, where he was treated for high blood pressure and chest pains.
