Gunmen suspected to be herdsmen invaded and destroy a rice plantation in Asolo village, a suburb of Uso in Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State. The hoodlums invaded the farm with AK47 rifles and other dangerous weapons. They chased out all the farmers on the land and threaten to shoot any that resist that command.
Meanwhile, prior to the invasion, some members of the farmer had arrested one herdsman who entered the farm with his cattle last Friday.
Reasonably, the invasion of the herdsmen couldn’t be detached from the arrest of one of their kinsmen by the farmers.
The herdsmen completely destroyed the rice plantation that seats on 100 hectares of land. According to the report, the land farmland is one of the lands given by the Ondo state government with a loan from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to boost the production of rice in the state.
Unfortunately, the rice plantation could not fulfill the purpose for which it was given. After the herdsmen had chased out the farmers, they beckon on their kinsmen to enter the farm with their cattle. The cattle ransacked the farm and destroyed all the products on the land.
Meanwhile, the farmers have called on the state government to take a quick step on the issue. They lamented that all the money and efforts invested in the plantation have gone down the drain.
They added that no one has been apprehended in connection to the farm invasion. Whereas, the issue has been reported to the Ondo State Police command.
