Barcelona football wizard Lionel Messi is the new king of world football. He has emerged as the winner of the 2019 Ballon d’Or for a record 6th time.
He received a standing ovation and resounding applause from the audience and colleagues as he matched to the stage to collect the award from Luka Modric.
In fact, the whole Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris, France, where the ceremony took place, stood still for the Argentine as he dethroned Modric of Real Madrid who won it in 2018.
He now has the bragging rights as the most decorated footballer in terms of the award. As far as Ballon d’Or is concerned, he is now better than his longtime rival Christiano Ronaldo who has won it in five occasions.
