Men Face Trial for Alleged Involvement in Homosexuality in Lagos

Homosexuality is an offense that is punishable by the laws that guide a nation like Nigeria. It may be allowed in other clans, but not here in Nigeria.

In cities like Lagos, the crime attracts 14-years imprisonment.

About 46 men in Lagos State are presently facing trial for alleged involvement in the act of Homosexuality. According to the report, Lagos State Police Command arrested the men in a hotel in 2017. They have been accused of indulging in the act during a party dubbed ‘gay initiation’. According to the prosecution, “the men were permitting male persons to have carnal knowledge of themselves against the order of nature.”

However, the men have pleaded not guilty to the charges levied against them. They argued that the party was not a gay party. In fact, there were women in the party. However, the security operatives upon arrival chased out the women and seized only them, only to accuse us of practicing homosexuality, said one of the accused.

Meanwhile, the counsel to the defendant, lawyer Chizelu Emejulu disclosed that his clients were just having fun at a party before they were arrested by the police. In his words, “They were attending a birthday party. Some of them were at the club of the hotel, some others were relaxing in their rooms when the police came in and arrested them,”

He added that there were women at the party but the Policemen allowed the women to go and kept the men in custody. Needless to say that it was just a planned work to implicate these gentlemen, he said.

Meanwhile, the case has been adjourned untill February 4
