Former Manchester United striker, Dimitar Berbatov says Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo will struggle in the present Manchester United team.
Berbatov stated this in his column on Betfair. The former Bulgarian striker had a torrid moment during his playing days with the Reds.
While describing United’s game against Newcastle as the poorest game so far, Berbatov said United deserved to lose. United is currently 12th on the English Premiership log with 9 points from eight games trailing Liverpool with 13 points.
He, however, remains positive with the manager urging the team to implement his ideas.
“As I have said many times before, I will try to stay positive and support a manager that is in a tough situation. Before Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Jose Mourinho, who had a similar team, had a hard time as well. So they need to constantly work and everybody needs to implement Ole’s ideas as a manager.
“Of course, it is far too easy to say ‘get rid of him’ because of the playing style and losing matches. But is that going to help the team in any way? Is a new manager, system of play, tactics going to help? It is a very delicate situation and the easiest way is to say get rid, but that’s not always the right way,” he wrote.
United will return from the international break playing at home against the league leaders. Some have said that could be Solskjaer’s last game as Jurgen Klopp’s men are expected to get maximum points.
Berbatov: United needs Madzukic
Berbatov also suggested that United can go for an experienced striker like Mario Madzukic. He added that the forward can relieve Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood of pressure.
With the form of Gonzalo Higuain, Cristiano Ronaldo, Paulo Dybala, Madzukic’s game time has been reduced and sometimes he didn’t even get to play.
“The winter transfer window is difficult and also on the pitch, Manchester United aren’t producing as a team at the moment. It doesn’t matter how good you are, Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo could go there and they would have difficulty because the team is not producing as a team.
“Zlatan Ibrahimovic was 34 when he signed for United and he didn’t have any problems. Mandzukic is a similar age and hope he could have the same impact if he signs. I think his age is a good thing; Martial, Rashford and Greenwood are all young players so they need that time and assurance that they don’t need to worry and they can learn from the experience of Mandzukic,” he added.
