Ganiyu Gandonu, is from Ogun State, he is 27 years old and he’s hardworking, his wife says. The father of one was murdered on a cold night in the Bronx, New York. He was fatally stabbed in the neck and in the torso. The police are looking for a person of interest that they saw on CCTV, the images has been released and they urged the pubic to help find the person.
It’s unclear if this person of interest was his passenger. However, the police are asking for leads so they can bring the suspect to justice. They are also trying to determine whether Mr. Ganiyu was murdered during a robbery.
The decease was found around 9pm on Hutchinson River Parkway East, in Baychester, Bronx, New York. He was still alive at the time, he was found bleeding badly from from the stab wounds. He was pronounced dead at Jacobi Medical Center. He left behind a wife and a 2 years old son.
The police are asking anyone that knows about the case to please speak out and contact the NYPD. Mr. Gandonu drove for Uber and had received his for-hire vehicle license in January 2017, the New York City Taxi and Limousine Commission revealed to New York Times.
“He left home around 7 p.m. on Saturday to work a shift picking up passengers, but he never came home, His wife, Latifat Alimi, 24 years old, told the press.
The New York City Taxi confirmed that Mr. Gandonu drove for Uber and had received his for-hire vehicle license in January 2017. He was killed less than 2 years on the road.
“My husband doesn’t deserve this I don’t know how my life’s going to be without him.” Latifah.
“I know for sure that he got no problem with anybody. He start this job. He worked. After work, he’s home. He don’t go to parties, met friends, go to clubs, nothing, nothing nothing.” – She said.
She also added that Ganiyu told her that he was tired but he has to go make the money before he left the night he was killed.
An Uber spokesman, Grant Klinzman, called Mr. Gandonou’s death “a horribly tragic incident,” adding, “our hearts go out to the grieving family.” – The New York times reported.
The independent driver guild group has offered a 3,000 reward for anyone who has information that may lead to the arrest of the suspect. The independent driver guild group is a union representative group for drivers that drive for Lyft, Uber and other car hiring drivers.
“We call on anyone who may have witnessed the attack to contact the police so that the culprit may be brought to justice,” the group, the Independent Drivers Guild, said in a statement.
Bhaivravi Desai is the executive direcotor of the New York Taxi workers alliance, and he added that violence and threats are part of being a professional driver.
