Michael Emeifah, the only son of the recently deceased member of the iconic ‘Danfo Drivers’ music duo, Mad Melon, has come out to say the true cause of Mad Melon’s demise.
The 18-year-old revealed in a chat with journalists that Mad Melon died of tuberculosis. According to him, the late musician had been battling the illness for a while before finally succumbing to it. Michael further revealed that his late father refused to take proper care of his health, describing his death as painful and hard to take in.
The visibly shaken boy said:
“He didn’t take his health seriously. He was still indulging in those bad habits he was warned to desist from. His death is painful despite his shortcomings.’
‘We heard the news of his death and decided to rush down. I will try my best to take of my mother. I am the man in the house now. Any time I remember him, it pains me in my heart. I don’t know what to do; I can’t cry neither can I laugh. He didn’t stay away from certain things were harmful to his health. I think that was what led to his death,” Michael said.
The young school leaver stated all these in a chat with journalists at their family house in Ajegunle, Lagos state. Although the boy stays with his mother and his sister in Delta state, he had to come to Lagos because of Mad Melon’s demise.
These statements come in the wake of claims that Mad Melon had died as a result of neglect from the industry. The other half of the Danfo Drivers music duo, Mountain Black, had claimed that the industry (music) neglected them and that they had to struggle to remain relevant. He made this statement in an interview with reporters where he said:
“Yes, he was neglected ( by the music industry ). We became popular in 2003, and we had been managing ourselves since then. I believe that with God, all things are possible. We believed in ourselves, and that is why we were still relevant in the industry until now. The industry is very wide; you can fix yourself anywhere and make your money. We were, also, both involved in the transportation business. ”
Omeofa Oghene popularly known as Mad Melon lost his life on the 26th of September, 2019. His demise was announced by veteran singer, Daddy Showkey on Instagram.
