President Muhammadu Buhari has on February 4, presented the Nigerian Visa Policy for the year 2020. The Visa Policy is expected to aid the development of the country’s economy and facilitate her growth.
The president presented the revised version of the Visa Policy at the statehouse in Abuja. The document consist of about 79 visa classification, one of the most important was the Visa on arrival policy. This will enable citizens of Africa countries with valid passport gain entry into Nigeria either for business or pleasure on arrival.
Reasonably, the policy will grant Africans with a valid passport the opportunity to enter the country for about 90 days whether for tourism, business short visit. Meanwhile, it could be recalled that President had initially announced that Africans with a valid passport will be granted Visa on arrival into Nigeria, a policy which ought to have started since January 2020.
Buhari while announcing the visa on arrival policy in Egypt in November 2019, said it provides an avenue to achieve African integration.
In his words;
“We in Nigeria have already taken the strategic decision to bring down barriers that have hindered the free movement of our people within the continent by introducing the issuance of visa at the point of entry into Nigeria to all persons holding passports of African countries with effect from January 2020.”
