One of the most popular lines most Nigerians grew up with is “Children are the Leaders of Tomorrow”. But you sometimes wonder how true that saying is when you hear or see an 84 years old man serving as an Ambassador.
We are talking about Nigerians one and only Ambassador to the United States of America, 84 years old Ambassador Sylvanus Adiewere Nsofor.
Ambassador Nsofor is a retired justice of Nigeria’s Court of Appeal. He assumed control of Nigeria’s embassy on November 13, 2017.
His appointment by President Muhammadu Buhari is seen by most Nigerians as a means to appreciate him for giving the only dissenting vote in a three-justice panel in favour of Buhari in 2003.
This happened when President Buhari challenged the outcome of the 2003 presidential election involving him and former President Olusegun Obasanjo. The penal ended up confirming president Obasanjo has the winner of the election despite Nsofor’s vote.
No wonder the president insisted on giving him the most important job as far as diplomacy is concerned.
But a viral video a socialite and activist, Charley Boy posted on Twitter proved that the appointment of Nsofor is a diplomatic setback.
In the video, the 84 years old retired judge was seen with a walking stick and a number of people showing him the way.
He struggled to gather some strength as he walked in accordance with the leading of those that were guiding him through.
