Silent Xmas: Ondo Police Command Ban Use of Fireworks

The Ondo state police command has proscribed the use of fireworks during the yuletide.

This was revealed via a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer of the state, DSP Femi Joseph. In his words, “Parents and guardians are advised to warn their children and wards from using such fireworks under the guise of celebrating the Yuletide as criminals often use this opportunity to commit havoc.

“Similarly, those who engage in the sales of these items are also warned to desist from such business as buyers, users and sellers are all culpable under the law,” Joseph said.

According to him, the police command is also assuring law-abiding citizens of the state of adequate protection before, during and after the Yuletide.

There is no gainsaying that Yuletide in Ondo state will be somehow this year. The sound of fireworks renting the air is the first thing that announces every festive period yearly. Many times, citizens get so busy with works that they don’t even remember dates. Salary earners most times, only remember their payday. Ask them any other date, they would not know.

However, the sound of fire works like bangers, knockouts or explosives bring people to the consciousness that the festive period is here.

Unfortunately, the country is not safe for things like that again. Evil perpetrators are already hiding under the guise of celebrating with fireworks to carry out their nefarious activities. Hence, Police Command of different states have come to knowledge of the heinous activities carried out with use of Knockout.
