The year 2019 is a year of Albums and Extended Play (EP) in the music industry in Nigeria. Almost all the A-list artists in the industry released one body of work or the other.
From Burna Boy’s Grammy-nominated album ‘Africa Giant’ to Davido’s most talked about album “A Good Time” and to Wizkid’s EP ‘Soundman’, almost all the raving artists in the industry had something to point to. And all the body of work did great both in Nigeria and in the world, especially across music streaming platforms.
Some of the musicians that dropped a body of work this year (apart from the ones mentioned above) include but not limited to Peruzzi, Fireboy, Joeboy, Vector, Mayorkun, Simi, Ycee, Sarz, Rema, Teni, and many others.
Amidst all these names, singing sensation Simi dared the Music Industry saying that her album: “Omo Charlie Champagne Vol. 1” is the best album in 2019.
“Excuse me if this bothers you, but this album is the best album I heard this whole year. #OmoCharlieChampagne demmit”, she tweeted.
She corrected herself minutes later and tweeted that no one should excuse her, urging her over one million followers on Twitter to tell her one album that is better than hers with proof.
The singer who tweeted this on Saturday said she wrote one of the tracks on the 13-track album ‘Charlie’ “sobbing like a two-year-old child”. “And I think it’s one of the best, most honest songs I ever wrote in my whole life”, she added.
‘Omo Charlie Champagne Vol. 1’ is named after Simi’s father (Charlie). It is her third studio album and a follow-up to her critical acclaim album ‘Simisola’.
