Sotitobire: Court Remands Akure Pastor, Six Others Over Missing Baby

The founder of Sotitobire Miracle University, Oshinle Quarters, in Akure, Ondo State capital, Prophet Alfa Babatunde, has been remanded at the Olokuta Correctional Centre after being charged with conspiracy to kidnap and aiding kidnapping.

During his arraignment before Magistrate Charity Adeyanju at a Magistrates’ Court sitting in Oke-Eda, Akure alongside six persons, the cleric was said to have committed the offence on November 10 at about 11:45 am at his church.

It became a trending topic after the mother of the child, Kolawole Gold went to media houses to help her plight that the cleric had done nothing to help the situation. She had also in an interview alleged that the cleric beat her husband over the matter due to his influence in the state as he usually moves around with Police escort.

She also alleged that Babatunde sent assassins to them.

The situation led to angry youths burning down his church over a rumour that the cop of the missing boy was exhumed from his alter.

His charge sheet read: “That you Prophet Alfa Babatunde, Omodara Olayinka, Margret Oyebola, Grace Ogunjobi, Egunjobi Motunrayo, Esther Kayode, Peter Anjorin and others at large on November 10, at about 11:45 am, at Sotitobire Praising Chapel, 48, Solagbade Street, Oshinle Quarters Akure, Ondo State did conspire to commit felony to wit, kidnapping and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 516 of the Criminal Code Cap 37 Vol 1 Laws of Ondo State.

“That you Prophet Alfa Babatunde, Omodara Olayinka, Margret Oyebola, Grace Ogunjobi, Egunjobi Motunrayo, Esther Kayode, Peter Anjorin and others now at large on November 10, at about 11:45 am, at Sotitobire Praising Chapel, 48, Solagbade Street Oshinle Quarters, Akure did aid the kidnap of Gold Eninlaloluwa Kolawole, aged 13 months and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 5(i) of the Ondo State Anti-kidnapping and Anti-abduction Law, 2010.”

Joshua Dada, the prosecuting counsel then prayed the court to remand the accused person in prison custody for further investigation. According to him, if he was given bail, it would jeopardise their investigation. His prayers were granted.
