An armed police officer shot at a man suspected to be a terrorist near the London Bridge in the United Kingdom on Friday.
While reacting to the incident, the Metropolitan Assistant Commissioner Neil Basu, confirmed that the man died of the gun wounds sustained at the scene of the incident.
The assistant commission who also serves as the top counter-terrorism officer in the UK told reporters that the dead suspect had a “hoax device” strapped to his body which (prompted the police to shoot at him).
Reports in the media say the police arrived at the scene of the incident when it got a report of a stabbing near the bridge at around 2 PM. local time. The dead suspect reportedly caused the stabbing when the members of the public spotted him with the device strapped to his body.
A viral video reportedly showed the police wrestling off members of the public from the man before the police shot at him. Another video also showed another man walking away with a knife he reportedly snatched away from the dead suspect.
The police say it is treating the incident as a terror attack, but it is yet to confirm the level of casualties as at the time of publishing this report. However, reports say two people who were injured in the incident had died while several others are still responding to treatment.
